| WDP
has a number of rigid borescopes and flexible fiberscopes for visual inspection
of inaccessible locations such as masonry wall cavities and tendon ducts.
The scopes act as lighted tubes which allow one to see these spaces through
small holes in walls or structures. WDP has a variety of equipment which
allows the transmitted view to be photographed or videotaped.
Borescopes
and fiberscopes are often used to verify findings from other testing, such
as infrared thermography
(IT) or impact-echo testing.
In masonry, IT may suggest excessive mortar fouling within a cavity or
missing grout in a concrete masonry cell. In concrete, impact-echo testing
may indicate areas of large voids within a concrete column. In both instances,
small holes can be drilled into the suspected void locations and scopes
used to visually verify results.
