WDP performed
a comprehensive geotechnical investigation for this 420,000 square foot
food manufacturing facility including an on-site wastewater treatment plant
and privately-owned railroad spur. Geotechnical design recommend- ations
provided for foundation and floor slabs, below-grade walls, pavements,
and site preparation/fill placement. WDP provided an on-site materials
testing laboratory for all structural fill placement operations (approx.
1 million CY), foundation examinations and slab subgrade preparations,
concrete placement (approx. 25,000 CY) structural steel and masonry, and
paving operations (approx. 25 acres).

Due
to WDP's involvement:
-
The on-site laboratory
provided rapid testing of soils and concrete materials, particularly for
tilt-up panel erection based on concrete strength.
-
Marginally suitable
site soils were either mixed with blasted rock to increase suitability
and/or selective placement methods were employed to cost-effectively utilize
all on-site soils without compromising long-term performance.
-
Considerable concrete
mix design testing using both flexural beams and test cylinders as well
as washed concrete gradations to confirm unreinforced slab design criteria.
