| The
goal in engineering investigative work is to determine the existing conditions
of the structure in question and predict past and future conditions of
that structure. Some investigative options, e.g. removing a brick veneer
to see what is behind it, significantly alter the conditions found in the
field. Therefore, methods which have little effect on the existing conditions,
i.e., nondestructive methods, are highly desirable.
Nondestructive
testing (NDT) is a powerful tool used by WDP engineers during structural
evaluations and facade investigations. WDP has developed extensive expertise
in NDT, especially relating to concrete and masonry, in order to gain an
understanding of the existing conditions of structures at the least cost
and disruption to the client. WDP also provides NDT services as a sub-consultant
to other professionals. |
