Johns Hopkins University – Student Bookstore

Baltimore, Maryland

The Student Bookstore complex includes two student housing buildings linked by a walkway bridge over Lovegrove Street. The 12 story Charles Street building has 100,000 square feet of space and features ground to floor retail facing 33rd Street. The St. Paul Street building is 10 floors with 203,000 square feet of space, including a student dining facility and the two-story bookstore.

WDP was retained by the developer to perform a peer review of the design documents related to the building envelope, roof system, and below grade waterproofing. WDP prepared recommended architectural details to complement the design documents and better define coordination of building materials. WDP was also retained to provide construction monitoring services for the building envelope on a full time basis.

WDP also performed a peer review of the project specifications, architectural details and material submittals for water penetration resistance, material compatibility and constructability. Development of architectural details to complete the building façade portion of the design package and full time construction monitoring of air barrier installation, brick veneer, precast concrete, window systems, and roofing were also included in WDP’ s scope of services.

Ingleside at King Farm

Rockville, Maryland

Ingleside at King Farm is a 790,000 sq. ft. high rise assisted living facility with concrete frame, brick veneer, proprietary stucco, cast stone and metal panel façade, and urethane coatings on balcony decks. WDP was retained by the General Contractor and Construction Manager to perform a peer review of the design documents related to the building envelope, roof system, and below grade waterproofing. The project was negotiated at a cost not to exceed based on 80 percent design documents. WDP prepared architectural details to complement the design documents and better define coordination of building materials. WDP was also retained to provide construction monitoring services on a part-time basis. WDP visited the site twice a week for a period of one year. WDP also conducted peer review of project specifications, architectural details and material submittals for water penetration resistance, material compatibility and constructability. WDP developed recommended architectural details to complete the building façade portion of the design package. Peer reviews of structural steel moment connection specifications and design were also included in WDP’s scope of services.

University of Virginia – South Lawn

Charlottesville, Virginia

The South Lawn Project at the University of Virginia is an ambitious structural design/build endeavor which will accommodate the requirements of the College of Arts & Sciences while maintaining the integrity of the architecture of surrounding campus buildings. With a project construction cost of $105 million, South Lawn is a 110,000 square foot, four-building complex, and will serve an average of 12,000 students every day. The South Lawn Project will feature new buildings that include classrooms complete with the latest technology, meeting areas for students and faculty, as well as offices.

WDP was retained by the Construction Manager for the University to perform a peer review of the design documents related to the building envelope, roof system, below grade waterproofing and green roof system. The project is steel frame, brick veneer, reinforced CMU infill, standing seam metal roof and hot applied bitumen waterproofing.

WDP conducted peer review of project specifications, architectural details and material submittals for water penetration resistance, material compatibility and constructability. WDP also developed recommended architectural details to complete the building façade portion of the design package. Peer reviews of structural steel moment connection specifications and design were also included in WDP’s scope of services.
