| In
a condition assessment of a concrete or reinforced masonry structure, it
is often critically important to verify the presence of reinforcing steel.
To accomplish this critical task, WDP has a variety of devices which determine
the size and location of reinforcing steel. These devices utilize either
eddy currents or magnetic inductance to locate the reinforcement. WDP also
maintains a variety of equipment for the physical verification of the size
and depth of the steel.
In masonry
veneer, spacing of veneer anchors and joint reinforcing is typically mandated
by building codes. In some buildings, due to design or construction deficiencies,
improper anchorage of the veneer is provided, creating the potential for
the veneer to fail under certain loading conditions. In order to design
an appropriate repair for correcting these deficiencies, WDP uses pachometers
and other devices to locate existing anchorage.

Projects
where Steel Reinforcement Location may be critical:
-
Repairs to parking
garage slabs
-
Repairs to post-tensioned
balcony slabs
-
Utility installation
through reinforced concrete
-
Verification of
reinforced concrete or masonry design
-
Structural analysis
of as-built conditions
