WDP Staff Help Local CommunitiesNews
WDP staff donated over $1300 this year to purchase toys, clothing, and shoes for kids within the Georgetown South Community for our Holiday Community Service project again this year. This community is within 3 miles of our Manassas office, has 860 homes and more than 4,000 people, many of whom are children; and they received help requests from 240 families with over 500 kids. Through successful in-house donations, WDP was able to "adopt" 7 children during the holiday season and spread some joy to the less fortunate. We had a small amount leftover (approx. $30) which we donated to the House of Mercy Food Pantry in Manassas. To learn more about the food pantry, donate, or volunteer, check out their website at https://houseofmercyva.org/.

Hal & Bernie Hanson Regional Park Officially OpensNews

WDP attended the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the long-awaited Hal and Bernie Hanson Regional Park on Friday, September 23, 2022. The 257-acre community/recreational park is located on Evergreen Mills Road just south of Independence High School in Aldie, Virginia. The park was already being put to good use with various sports, dog walkers, and kids eager to play on their new community playground. With 17 lighted athletic fields, basketball and tennis courts, batting cages, skate plaza, fishing piers, dog runs, disc golf course, amphitheaters, lodge and nature center, grandstands (and the list keeps going), it is apparent that leadership in Loudoun County truly wanted to cater to its community. WDP is so proud to have been involved on this project, providing construction inspections and materials testing services as a subconsultant to MBP on behalf of Loudoun County Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure (DTCI). WDP worked closely with design A/E firm Lose Design, Hess Construction, and the many trade subcontractors on this 3-year massive undertaking.

Prince William County has Grand Opening for New Animal Services CenterNews
WDP was in attendance for the grand opening of Prince William County's new Animal Services Center. The event, which took place on Saturday - September 17, marks the beginning of a new era for the animal shelter as the previous shelter was 45 years-old and unable to accommodate the County's growing population. The new center is a modern, 27,000+ SF facility that features a two-stall, medical-grade barn for livestock, four outdoor play yards for dogs, a community cat room, multiple smaller outdoor play areas, individually ventilated cat condos, as well as separate housing areas for our feathered and even our reptilian friends. The Center also features an upgraded HVAC system to reduce airborne diseases and a veterinarian suite for surgeries and advanced medical care for animals. Having provided the design-phase geotechnical investigation in 2017 and as Geotechnical Engineer of Record and consultant to Cole and Denny during construction, WDP is thrilled to see the results of the project teams' hard work on a wonderful new facility for our furry, feathery (and scaly) friends!

LCPS Facilities Operations Developing and Implementing New Initiative with WDP for Asphalt Pavement Repairs/Maintenance and Life Cycle AnalysisNews

WDP executed three asphalt pavement assessments / evaluations, which included Middleburg Community Charter School, Aldie Elementary School, and Heritage High School, as part of a nearly 100 school inventory of existing asphalt pavement assessments and maintenance efforts estimated to occur over the next five years. The pavement assessments involved test borings, pavement cores, and lab testing and analysis (by Michelle Mittel, E.I.T., and Rob Niber, P.E.) to refine past Loudoun County Public School (LCPS) approaches to asphalt pavement repairs. WDP’s efforts saved considerable money while providing LCPS with the desired future pavement service life. During asphalt pavement milling/remedial stabilization repairs and asphalt resurfacing, WDP provided engineering oversight and field evaluations, including surface asphalt placement monitoring for proper thickness and compacted density. Additional staff involved during the construction phase included Claude Thomas (Engineering Technician) and Ed Brilhart (Field Operations Manager).
