Architect of the Capitol - Power Plant Utility Tunnels
As a sub-consultant to Entech Engineering, Inc., WDP performs structural condition assessments and repair recommendations to nearly 3 miles of reinforced concrete utility tunnels that provide steam and chilled water to approximately 20 buildings. The tunnels range greatly in cross-section and in construction dates, dating from the early 1900’s to the early 2000’s. WDP has been responsible for continued annual condition re-assessments of the tunnels, as well as providing structural analysis, repair recommendations, assistance in the development of repair plans and specifications, and aides to maintain a safe environment for tunnel entrants. WDP also provides additional consulting services to the Architect of the Capitol project management team during the execution of repairs. WDP’s personnel on this project have undergone confined space, heat stress, asbestos awareness, and personal protective equipment training.
