George Washington University Masonry Façade Restoration 2142 G Street, NW, Washington, DC

WDP provided a masonry forensic condition assessment, structural analysis, and a geotechnical investigation of the historic row house, which serves as the offices for the University’s center for Judaic Studies.  Key objectives of the assessment included evaluation of damage resulting from the August 2011 earthquake, long-term settlement issues at the 22nd Street elevation of the townhouse, and general age deterioration of the façade, slate roof system and metal trim.

Subsequent to the evaluation, WDP developed construction documents to improve the structural stability of the mass masonry walls, underpinning of the foundation, and repairs to the building facade. 

To address the settlement issues, WDP designed a cast-in-place concrete underpinning system to support the brick masonry bearing wall and brick masonry footing.

  • Wood window repairs
  • Sealant replacement
  • Historic metal trim repair and duplication
  • Painting
