Roanoke Higher Education Center Façade, Window & Roof Repairs, Roanoke, VA
WDP performed an investigation and repair design of the exterior masonry facade on the 8-story building (previously known as the Norfolk and Western Railroad General Office Building South). The investigation focused on evaluation and identification of sources of leakage and structural distress in the original 1930s era brick masonry and windows, as well as the new single ply roofing assembly and curtain wall assembly constructed in 1999. WDP’s repair design services included the removal and redesign of the masonry parapets; selective masonry veneer repairs and pinning; masonry tuck-pointing; window repairs with selective window removal; replacement of window lintels and flashings; replacement of through wall masonry flashings; curtain wall repairs; new roofing assembly design; and plaza waterproofing repairs. This building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. WDP submitted the drawings and specifications for review by the Department of Historic Resources (DHR) and accommodated all changes and comments produced by DHR.
