Sentara Leigh Hospital Bed Tower Expansion, Norfolk, VA

WDP was retained by Sentara Healthcare to provide peer review and construction monitoring services during the design and construction phases of the Bed Tower Expansion Project at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA.  The project consisted of constructing a new parking garage, two five-story patient bed towers, a 48-bed orthopedic and rehabilitation center, and modifications/upgrades to the hospital entrance.  The existing hospital remained fully occupied throughout the phases of construction.  The project presented unique detailing and material selection associated with integrating the new construction with the existing. 

As part of WDP’s peer review, we reviewed the Drawings and Specifications to identify air/moisture barrier continuity concerns, various cladding integrations, flashing assemblies, and building envelope constructability issues.  During construction, WDP conducted routine site visits to observe the work and evaluate building envelope compliance with the Drawings and Specifications, as well as industry standards.
