Warrenton Aquatic & Recreation Facility (WARF) – Warrenton, VA
The Warrenton Aquatic & Recreation Facility (WARF) is a $23 million, 45,000 SF, 3-story steel-framed and reinforced CMU, aquatic and recreation center including sports fields, skateboard ramp park, and inline hockey rink. The WARF houses a 25 yard by 25 meter indoor Competition Pool, a Leisure Pool with a Water Slide, Lazy River, Zero Depth Entry Pool and a Therapeutic Spa. In addition, there are two available rooms on the Pool Level for community and group events. The Main Level has a 2,580 SF Fitness Room with state-of-the-art fitness machines. The facility also houses a 1,790 SF Multi-Purpose Room which is used for group fitness classes and other group events. It includes a 7 acre pond created by an earthen dam.
WDP performed the design-phase geotechnical investigation (test pits and dilatometer soundings) that enabled heightened soil bearing pressure in challenging silt/clay soils, allowing for the utilization of a shallow foundation system, resulting in considerable cost savings for the client, when compared to alternative foundation methods. A large SWM/BMP pond was critical to the drainage preservation requirements. WDP provided Special Inspections and Materials Testing services for soils, concrete, CMU, structural steel, fireproofing, and asphalt throughout construction of the Warrenton Aquatic and Recreation Facility.
