Benjamin Townsend, P.E., Senior Engineer, New York Division Manager

WDP Office: New York

Ben’s expertise centers around forensic structural evaluation, building enclosure consulting and building enclosure commissioning (BECx). He is actively involved in developing standards and presenting at industry conferences on topics related to enclosure performance verification. His knowledge and skill in evaluation of facades and building enclosures has allowed him to lead successful projects throughout the eastern United States on the repair of existing buildings, acting as the building enclosure commissioning agent, and helping clients prevent post-occupancy problems through building enclosure reviews.

“My work at WDP has provided me with a well-rounded perspective of how building enclosures and structures are constructed, maintained, and repaired. The time I have spent in the field inspecting new construction and performing non-destructive testing of existing buildings has given me practical insight on what does and does not work when I implement my own façade and structural repairs, or provide peer review input on the designs of others. Similarly, this experience aids me in the field of Building Enclosure Commissioning, where I work to implement solid, practical processes to ensure the quality of new building enclosure construction.”

Technical Papers/Publications & Speaking Engagements
Ben has presented on and published articles on topics including building enclosure commissioning, façade damage modeling, and methods of improving masonry cavity wall construction.
