Carter Villa, Staff Engineer

WDP Office: Blacksburg

Carter assists project managers and engineers in the assessment of large-scale commercial construction projects, building element failure investigations, historical preservation and renovation projects, and design review services. His duties typically include gathering and reviewing documents and site information for litigation support, owner’s quality assurance inspections, and quality assurance observations and testing.

“I have always been passionate about figuring out how things work and how components interact to accomplish their intended purpose.  Working with WDP, I have seen how building elements and design decisions during construction influence the life of the building. I use that knowledge on the new construction side of the company to try and mitigate those problems.”

While at VMI, Carter was involved in the following:
  • Engineers Without Borders — Bolivia missions, 2016 – 2018
  • Undergraduate Research — VMI, 2018-2019. “Impact Resistance of Simulated Iraqi Low-Grade Concrete Barriers”
  • Undergraduate Research Assistant — Virginia Tech Shock Tube Testing Lab, 2019 – 2020
