Rex Cyphers is a Principal with WDP & Associates and works in WDP's Charlottesville office.

Rex specializes in the design and repair of masonry structures, historic preservation, and nondestructive testing. He performs forensic field and laboratory investigations, façade and building envelope investigations, structural inspection/analysis and design, architectural retrofit and repair, roofing and waterproofing investigations, and development of design documents, and repair recommendations. Additionally, as a Principal and the Chief Operating Officer, he is responsible for overseeing the work of all WDP divisions, WDP's hiring process, staff development, and company operational decisions. He primarily works out of the Charlottesville office and has been with the company since 2003.

Technical Papers/Publications & Speaking Engagements

Over the past several years, Rex has authored and co-authored numerous articles published in technical journals and frequently appears at national conferences to present his publications. Many of his publications and presentations focus heavily on the building envelope from the design phase, proactively working to prevent design problems, to the rehabilitation and repair phase, correcting issues that commonly plague the building envelope, such as water infiltration. One of his recent publications was titled "Performance of Historic Mass Masonry Walls Utilizing In-situ Measurements," which was co-authored with Annette Cyphers, P.E., who was Director of Facilities Planning and Construction at the University of Virginia, and Jodi Knorowski, P.E., of WDP.
