Bob has worked with WDP for over 20 years managing geotechnical and construction testing projects throughout Virginia and nearby states. He has twice been the past president of WACEL (Washington Area Council of Engineering Laboratories), is currently its Treasurer, and has been chairman of their certification committee (developing and maintaining their certification tests) for more than 10 years.   Bob is responsible for maintaining the WACEL and AASHTO accreditation of WDP's in-house materials testing laboratory. Bob also currently serves as a member of the Fairfax County (Virginia) Geotechnical Review Board and the Fairfax County Engineering Standards & Review Committee, and he is actively involved on a number of ASTM Committees -  C-09, D-18 and E-36 - responsible for the development of standards relating to Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Testing and Inspections.

“In Northern Virginia, it is not uncommon to have 8 to 10 different soil types on one site.  And some soil conditions can affect the cost of earthwork and foundations by as much as 200%.  That’s a big number that I strive to mitigate by working with the civil engineer on the building layout and the structural engineer on the foundation system.  In regard to inspections and testing, it’s a point of pride for me, knowing that I helped deliver a lasting building.  The construction industry is under constant pressure to build faster and cheaper, which keeps me and my inspectors on our toes.  Nothing gives me more satisfaction than a client reference saying that they experienced real value for our service.”
