Sharif H. Qandour, Staff Engineer I
Sharif is a Staff Engineer in WDP's Manassas office.
Sharif assists senior and project engineers on many different projects including field investigations that utilize both diagnostic and standardized water infiltration and QA testing, various material sampling and testing, and the use of nondestructive test methods – particularly Surface Penetrating Radar (SPR). Sharif has used different SPR systems to locate, identify, and document reinforcing steel, post-tensioned cables, and hidden voids within concrete members of varying severity.
“One of my earliest projects I worked on that I found fascinating was assessing the post-tensioned steel tendons throughout a university dormitory. It was amazing to think about the amount of force that goes into tensioning these tendons and locking them down with embedded anchors. In addition, I was always interested in learning about how people figured out how to make massive functional structures, such as the Hoover Dam or the Golden Gate Bridge. These feats of engineering just made me think of the immense potential we have as civil engineers and how we can help people in their everyday life by designing and constructing, what is to me, art.”
