This entry level position is an opportunity to learn about the commercial construction industry from the ground up!  As an entry level Field Tech/Construction Inspector you will receive training and certifications to perform testing and inspections for construction projects located in Northern Virginia.   You’ll work on construction sites to observe and report on the placement and testing of materials (concrete, soils, asphalt, masonry).  You will also receive training to read and interpret construction plans for proposed buildings, pavement, and utility improvements.  You’ll conduct regular site visits on heavy construction sites to observe, test materials, and report on findings.  You’ll be the eyes, ears, and boots on the ground, reporting back to the Project Manager / Division Manager to ensure projects proceed according to specifications.  This position requires local travel in company vehicles, a valid license, good written communication skills, and occasional weekend / evening work.

At WDP, you will learn while you earn!  Starting pay at entry level without certifications/experience is $15/hr.  Experienced techs/inspectors are encouraged to apply and will be compensated accordingly.  You will receive paid training, pay increases for each certification, and paid overtime!

Guided by industry standards, you’ll perform field testing of building envelope components such as windows, doors, curtainwalls, storefronts, skylights, masonry, metal and composite panels, exterior cladding systems, roofing and waterproofing systems as well as structural components. Data from your field assessment informs our Special Consulting Division’s development of repair design solutions. 

Experience in the construction, engineering, or architecture industry is highly sought for this position. Experience with carpentry and/or assembly are also favorable. You must be able to creatively solve problems on the fly. Pre-existing certifications in safety and access are preferred, but WDP will train the right candidate in safety and other required topics.

Depending on candidate location, this position can be centrally located in our Manassas, Blacksburg, or Charlottesville offices. Daily field work on active construction sites (including working from heights) is required. Day travel (within 100 miles) is a daily requirement and overnight travel may be required up to 50% of the work week.

  • Site visits and field testing of architectural elements
  • Recording images and data to create detailed site visit reports
