The new switchgear was to replace the existing facility at the National Audio Video Conservation Center located in Culpeper, Virginia. Several different concepts were proposed by the owner to accomplish the plan, including replacement of the existing facility with modification, new construction of the switchgear room, and an outdoor switchgear option. WDP provided structural engineering services to the AOC and worked with the architect, electrical engineer, and mechanical engineer.

Various structural engineering services were provided throughout the project as required to accomplish the following goals:

  • Feasibility study of new switchgear room including building code analysis, structural analysis and design of new structural framing system, and preliminary framing plan
  • Structural design of new door opening at the existing building
  • Design of concrete footings, utility pads, bollards, and slab on grade
  • Design of conduit support system
  • As-built condition survey including visual and non-destruction testing
  • Development of construction drawing and specification.
