Lake Ridge Boathouse

Lake Ridge Boathouse

WDP performed a structural condition assessment of the wood-framed building structure including columns, footings, beams, joists, and roof trusses. We also performed both structural analysis and design of strengthening systems to upgrade the existing structure to comply with the current building code. Construction documents were developed to address immediate structural repairs and permanent repairs. Construction services were also provided as Engineer of Record including submittal review, response to RFIs, generation of field directives, review of change orders, periodic site visits, and review of pay applications.

A series of structural analyses were performed to evaluate the capacity of the structural members due to the gravity loads and the lateral loads. Numerous repairs and strengthening methods were applied to the existing structure. These included footing and wood column replacements, floor strengthening, new shear wall construction, steel rod cross bracing, roof truss strengthening, roof truss bracing, mezzanine railing repairs, and reconstruction of storage units.

WDP’s investigation and repair design focused primarily on the structural issues identified in the County Safety Inspection Reports, which included:

  • Roof truss members
  • Roof rafter size, material, and spans
  • Rafter cuts at bearing wall
  • Shear walls
  • Floor joist size, material, and span
  • Floor supporting beam and post sizes, material, and configuration
  • Spliced column sizes, material, and configuration beam to column connections
  • Wood column footings
  • Sheathing span at roof trusses
  • Stair and stair rail configuration serving the main building mezzanine storage area
  • Guardrail at mezzanine storage areas
  • Mezzanine floor joist size, material and spacing
  • Boat storage frames and loading to structure
  • Structural Conditional Assessment
  • Repair Design
