Hokie Stone Efflorescence Study & Façade Analysis and Repair Services

WDP has been serving Virginia Tech since 1998, when we supported Branch & Associates with nondestructive testing at Hahn Hall for identifying voids in concrete masonry. Since 2004, WDP has held a multi-year term contract for the University’s building façades. The initial project scope encompassed identifying the causes and remedies for the efflorescence staining on the Hokie Stone buildings.

Our scope of work on over 50 projects has included numerous related tasks for Virginia Tech and their extensive inventory of over 8.5 million square foot academic, residential, public assembly, parking, and historical structures. Such tasks included review, observation, evaluation, and design or construction recommendations for newly constructed facilities, as well as analysis and recommended strategies for existing structures, in addition to cost estimate for repair.
